People-Centered Policy

I believe government exists to support the well-being of it’s citizens in the least invasive way possible, and that the best public policy comes from listening to those on all sides.

I believe in people-centered policy which prioritizes the well-being of everyday citizens over big business and party politics.

I am ready to work for quality education, economic opportunity, lowered tax burden on the middle class, safe and healthy communities and a representative government.

Where I Stand

  • I believe the best government is the one closest to the people. Currently, the legislature is overstepping and exerts control in local matters like city councils and school boards. I want to shift power back to these local governing bodies.

With the GOP holding more than 75% of the seats legislature (creating a supermajority), they are not held accountable by any of the checks and balances that were designed in our constitution. The legislature does not have to collaborate with the minority party. they do not have to accept a governors' veto, and they are currently fighting against a check from the Judicial branch. The legislature has too much power. This is a broken system and must be realigned to get back to working as our government was intended.

A vote for Alisa is a vote to restore balance and shift power back to the middle, back to the people and back to balance among government branches.

Chose a more ethical government. Reject Government Overreach. Vote for Alisa.

  • Rising housing prices increasingly mean our children will not be able to achieve the American Dream of owning homes. I bought a home in a town next to where I grew up because I love it here. Today's young adults may not have that option.

I want to keep people in their communities, and protect them from being priced out by new development.

Housing accessibility policy should include direct support to consumers; not just support to developers. I support grant programs to improve access to first time home buyers.

  • Utah children deserve great schools and skilled, happy teachers and staff. The state legislature has consistently under-funded our schools leaving a burden that is too heavy on our teachers, school staff, volunteers, and families. ALL school staff deserve respect and fair pay. I will prioritize a wage increase for para-educators and other support staff. I support raising the floor on wages not just the ceiling. I support expanding school lunch programs.

This year the legislature voted to remove a constitutional earmark that requires income tax be used for education (Amendment A). This move will allow the legislature to CONTINUE to decrease the proportion of the state budget used for education, as they have been doing for years. Vote NO on Amendment A

I do not support vouchers. I believe public funds should stay in public schools. Public education is a community resource.

  • I believe government should create policies to support everyday, working families through increased wages, lowered tax burdens on lower- and middle-income families; housing affordability, improved access to healthcare including mental health and reproductive care; and preserved access to outdoor spaces. I support removing the state food tax, without coupling that with education funding changes.

  • I am committed to defending the rights of all individuals, including women, the LGBTQ+ community, racial and ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and those practicing their faith. Every Utahn deserves to live free from discrimination and fear. I believe in respect, freedom, and dignity for all.

  • District 8 is home to several industries that impact our air, such as major freeways, commercial distribution centers, refineries, gravel pits, a dump, and a sewage treatment plant. Our current representatives have NEVER proposed legislation to support clean air. Meanwhile, in recent Well-Being Surveys around the district, clean air is consistently among the top concerns of our citizens.

As with most policy questions, I believe the solutions are somewhere in the middle and balance concerns on both sides. In this case, balancing industry and commerce with responsible stewardship over our environment. I believe in regulating industrial emissions and incentivizing cleaner processes.

As your representative, I will work with experts in science and business to protect our air and protect our industry. Endorsed by Stewardship Utah (formerly O2 Utah and the Rural Utah Project), I have already begun conversations about legislation to address clean air and preserve local industry.

Choose Alisa for a leader who will listen to citizens regarding their concern for clean air and will get to work on practical solutions.

  • I support the second amendment, and believe it’s possible to protect our right to bear arms and protect our children in safe schools, by keeping weapons out of the hands of those who should not have them.

  • Amendment D is void this year, but my opponent has said it is coming back. We need senators who will vote NO.

Amendment D is an effort by the legislature to accumulate more power. This constitutional amendment would allow the legislature to alter any future or PAST ballot initiatives without regard for the intent or wishes of the voters.

The legislature can already edit initiatives if needed. This power grab by the legislature is WHY we need a moderative, independent voice at the table.
